Destiny 2: 9 Leaked Details & Speculations You Need To Know
8. Characters & Classes Will Carry Over (Under One Condition)
Fear not, even though all your exotics, all your raid gear and all that loot you've been hoarding since day one have been blown up, your guardian will be moving forward. So that absolutely atrocious Exo Hunter you made three years ago will be just as ugly moving into Destiny 2. That is however, if and only if you completed a couple tasks in vanilla Destiny on your journey to the sequel.
In order for your character to be transferable to Destiny 2, you will need to have reached at least level 20 and have completed the Black Garden mission. These are both incredibly basic tasks. With the max level in Destiny now sitting at 40, it's all but guaranteed you've hit that level 20 mark.
Still, Black Garden was the last mission in the story way back before Destiny had any DLC. It's easy to overlook because those of you who came in with The Taken King or even Rise of Iron were gifted this little thing called the Spark of Light - an item that boosted your character up to the max level right away, allowing you to play the new expansions. With that boost in level, there's a good chance some players out there have never done the Black Garden mission. It wouldn't hurt for most players just to play the mission on all their characters, just as an insurance policy.
While we may be happy our characters are moving forward, who's to say they won't already be outdated? Destiny's character creation was very minimal, and it would be no surprise if it is completely overhauled come Destiny 2. Promotional posters already show characters with facial features that weren't included in Destiny, such as beards(!). So yes you may be able to bring forward those beloved guardians of yours, but doing so may negate you from enjoying other customization features moving forward.
