Destiny 2 Gameplay Reveal: 10 Things We Learned
9. Three New Planets & A New Area On Earth
Speaking of planets being given meaning, Destiny 2 will feature three brand new planets at launch as well as a new playable area on Earth. They are Titan, Nessus and IO, while the new area on Earth is the European Dead Zone.
Titan is a moon to Saturn, so not technically a 'planet', but you get the gist of it. Titan is also where, ironically enough, the Titan Vanguard, Zavala flees after the Cabal attack on the Tower. Titan is not going to be like any area seen in Destiny before, as the planet is made up entirely of an ocean with no land mass. There are, however, structures built long ago rising out of the water.
Nessus is going to be the home of the new Vex stronghold it seems. It's a planet that's essentially been rebuilt by the Vex and has a completely mechanical feel to it. Think of it as the areas the Vex controlled on Venus but on a much larger scale. This is where Cayde-6 flees after the invasion - starting to see the pattern here?
IO is yet another moon, this time to Jupiter. Described as "the last place the Traveler touched with its light before the collapse," it's considered a sacred place. Most importantly, it's considered a sacred place by the Warlocks, and you guessed it, is the place Ikora, the Warlock Vanguard flees to after the invasion.
The European Dead Zone is the new area on Earth, and is going to be larger than any area previously included. It's unknown at this time if that means the other previous areas of Earth will not be a part of Destiny 2. It's actually unclear if any previous planet(s) will be included.
The first Destiny had four playable zones at launch, so it's not far fetched to think these areas may be all we will be getting to start. However, with Bungie's "go big or go home" attitude this time round, it's hard to imagine previous planets won't be returning as well.
