Destiny 2 Gameplay Reveal: 10 Things We Learned

8. Planets Are Not Going To Feel As Empty

Other than public events, the occasional dead Ghost and basic missions like "kill X many enemies," there was really nothing to do on patrols in Destiny. Planets were just a lot of empty space that connected more empty space, with the occasional mission area here and there.

Destiny 2's patrols have been completely overhauled, and there will be more to do as you explore. More importantly, there will actually be incentive and reason to explore planets and not just go from point A to point B.

First and most importantly, planets are actually going to feature maps in-game that will show you all the important areas you can travel to, and how to get there. Also, each planet is going to feature "landing zones." It was something said in passing by Bungie, and one can only assume this will mean players will be able to choose a certain area to spawn in, as opposed to one spot, like it was in the first game.

One of the activities players will be able to take part in while exploring the planets will be public events just as in the previous game, except this time they will feature heroic objectives. On top of this will be "treasure maps" to find loot, as well as Lost Sectors.

Lost Sectors seem to be Bungie's answer to dungeons. If you've played Horizon Zero Dawn, think Cauldrons, and it should come as no surprise if Lost Sectors end up being essentially the same exact thing. They will be an area accessible from patrol, heavy with enemies where at the end is a harder enemy with loot.

Also, planet-to-planet travel will be available so going to orbit will no longer be necessary to do anything new in Destiny 2, thank god.
