1. Notice The New Reversible Cover Links To The Original
Across the entirety of DOOM's 2016 release, there are a ton of callbacks, easter eggs and references to the originals, but did you know the box art that comes with the game is reversible? Not only that, but if you side it up against the original DOOM art from 1993, it actually sits pretty nicely, the middle canyon providing a neat segue between the two pieces.
As the new game reframes the franchise's entire mythology to make Doomguy a mythical warrior retrieved from Hell itself, you'll come across some awesome additional artwork created for this 2016 release, that pays tribute to Don Ivan Punchatz' original cover (seen on the right).
The below image can be found on certain desks across the Argent Base, and also as a standard intel pickup when you first get back to Mars. It's pretty awesome to see just how much care, love and attention iD Software have continued to pay one of gaming's most identifiable and notorious franchises, and stands as a lesson to all other developers going forward - this is how you modernise a franchise.
