Its crazy to think that Doom has been around for over 20 years, and ever crazier that in that time there has only been three major game releases, the last one itself over a decade old. Thats unheard of in this day and age of assembly line sequels. It also means that a significant number of current gamers have probably never played a Doom game. This fact has not been lost on id Software, and they have publicly stated that their goal is to attract a new generation of gamers to the franchise. Such a statement, along with the lack of a number attached to the title, implies that this new Doom is effectively a reboot. This isnt exactly surprising given the popularity of reboots these days, and while this may bother some, its actually a good thing. New generations deserve to experience the same blood-soaked hellish action so many enjoyed all those years ago. Based on the footage released so far, along with statements by id Software and Bethesda, Doom 4 looks like an exciting new instalment that will introduce it to a whole new audience, while never forgetting its loyal fans. And that, is a wonderful thing. Are you looking forward to the new Doom? Let us know in the comments below!
