Doom 4: 10 Big Reasons It'll Be The Best Shooter Of 2016

2. It's Classic Doom

Even though Doom 3 was mostly well received, it still garnered a significant and vocal backlash for being too dark, slow, repetitive, and overly scripted, particularly when compared to its predecessors. Many jokes have been made about Doomguy€™s apparent inability to tape a flashlight to a gun, a restriction that bothered many players. Essentially, Doom 3 tried to be more of a horror game, as opposed to maintaining the more fast-paced arcade-y nature of the first two. Based on gameplay footage and statements from the development team at id Software, Doom 4 seems to be designed more around the formula that made the original so popular, i.e. killing countless waves of demons in brutally violent ways. Yes, while the first two games were spooky, they were mostly concerned with making you feel powerful against overwhelming and increasingly difficult enemies. The gratifying gunplay was what called players back to their computer, which was lost somewhat in Doom 3. Since games like Call of Duty and Halo wouldn€™t exist without Doom, it is encouraging to see the series returning to the roots that made it the best of its kind. There is nothing quite like classic Doom; it€™s why so many continue to enjoy the old games to this day.
