Doom 4: 10 Big Reasons It'll Be The Best Shooter Of 2016
7. The Weapons
Another thing Doom has always been notorious for is its assortment of weapons. The concept of a one man army carrying around chainguns, rocket launchers and plasma guns was novel when the original Doom was released, and its success helped popularize such weapons to the point where they're commonplace in first-person shooters today. Once more, at this point Dooms weapons have become just as iconic as anything else, you simply cant have an instalment without them. And that is precisely why Doom 4 could quite well be a welcome return to form and a fantastic shooter in its own right, as it looks to be bringing back all the guns people remember loving from the earlier games. The return of the super shotgun is especially encouraging, and it appears to be just as powerful and satisfying as it was in Doom II. Sure, it could be argued that the weapons of modern shooters make Dooms guns look simple or even antiquated in comparison, but it was always the gunplay, and the way the weapons felt as you used them, that made the Doom games so such fun. If the weapons of Doom 4 live up to this classic status, it will be the most addictive shooter to come around in quite some time.
