Doom 4: 10 Exciting New Details You Need To Know

4. Glory Kills Aren't What Fans Feared

When €œglory kills€™ were first introduced during last year€™s reveal, there was a fear that their use could hurt the pace of the game. Many games in the past have spammed and abused quick time attacks, and the last thing a Doom game needs is to get bogged down in over the top kill animations that serve little else but to show off. Since then, more has been revealed about the mechanics and purpose of these glory kills. id Software claims that they don€™t intrude on the pace of the shooting, and in fact enhance it by serving as extremely brief respites amidst chaotic enemy encounters. Should you find yourself feeling overwhelmed by the odds, engaging in a glory kill can offer you a moment to strategize. Once more, killing an enemy with a glory kill causes it to drop aid, adding a strategic and practical purpose to doing so. Even the mechanics of these are impressive. There are no random animations, so how you kill an enemy will depend on your position relative to its own. All this is to say that your fear of the glory kills being cheap quick time events appear unfounded. Let€™s hope they work as well as id Software says they do.
