Doom: Ranking All The Games From Worst To Best
2. Doom (2016)
Originally slated as Doom 4, at one point an FPS narrative that focused more on its Call-of-Duty-esque plot than anything that actually made the franchise what it was, the project was quickly overturned and spent almost seven years in development hell. And just when all hope was lost, from the ashes came a fresh attempt - a soft reboot of the franchise, if you will. Along came... Doom.
Perfectly recapturing the insane pace of the original games, Doom honours everything that came before it and then some.
From the gorgeously industrial soundtrack composed by the visionary Mick Gordon, the level and enemy designs, and the inclusion of the most cathartic feature in the history of gaming (the Glory Kill) Doom 2016 offers up a visceral re-imagining of Doom for the modern era.
Don't get it wrong, it isn't a perfect game; the whole experience can feel a bit too quick and easy if you have played some of the more challenging titles that have come before.
But none of that matters when you have a shotgun in one hand, a chainsaw in the other and a rocket launcher on your shoulder as you watch the demons you know and love get blown to smithereens in HD. That is perfection.
