Doom: Ranking All The Games From Worst To Best
1. Doom (1993)
In hindsight, what else could it have been? The one that birthed them all, a twisted spark of an insane idea born from a Tom Cruise movie quote (seriously, look it up) that is still shaping the landscape of modern gaming to this day, the original Doom is still one of the most inventive and unique experiences of all time.
Upon the completion of their second game Wolfenstein 3D - the game that literally birthed the concept of the first-person shooter as it is today - the Johns and other fellows of id had a completely new concept of a gaming engine with little else to do with it.
Inspired by the likes of Alien, The Evil Dead and a particularly gnarly Dungeons & Dragons campaign that the crew were running at the time, the concept of Doom was quickly realised into the inter-dimensional gore fest that would go on to dominate in sales and for the next few years.
Now a true icon of gaming, the story of the lone space marine slaying demons across the surface of Mars has become immortalised in the hearts of gamers everywhere.
Even Bill Gates himself was forced to publish Windows 95 in conjunction with Doom due to the latter being the most installed program on PCs across the world, even outperforming Windows itself. Talk about moving mountains...
