Doom: Ranking All The Games From Worst To Best

9. Doom VFR

Doom 2016
Bethesda

Capitalising on the huge success of 2016's Doom, Bethesda and id's next step was to break into the developing world of virtual reality. Lo' and behold: Doom VFR.

Having plucked an interesting concept from before the established events of Doom's story, the plot focuses on a scientist by the name of Doctor Peters.

A one time survivor of the Mars facility attack orchestrated by Olivia Pierce - head of the research facility and thorn in the side to Doomslayers everywhere - Peters' body is killed during the demon attack, yet his consciousness still lives on within the UAC systems.

Now piloting a sweet robot body with a very particular set of skills that transfer perfectly into VR, all while guided by the disembodied voice of Samuel Hayden - beloved robot guru of the newer entries into the franchise. Your mission is to make your way through the facility restoring power and operations to everywhere you go.

Though the transition of Doom into VR is a seamless and natural one in terms of its gameplay, it does unfortunately suffer from a lack of originality.

The level designs, soundtrack and even the only main boss battle of the game are all lifted from the 2016 title. While they are not necessarily bad there is a certain expectation to be met when it comes to an original title, especially for the groundbreaking capabilities of the still young medium of VR.
