Dragon Age 4: 11 Things We Learned From The Behind The Scenes Gamescom Feature
5. Creatures (Spiders With Hands!?)
A lot of interesting creatures are teased in the video, from what look to be red lyrium corrupted Darkspawn to a gorgeous, alien-looking red wyvern.
The star of the creature show, however, is the giant spider with hands that will likely feature in many people's nightmares. With the Nightmare Demon in Inquisition not only tapping into arachnophobia, but also trypophobia, with its disgusting pustulant eyes, and the giant spiders terrifying players in Origins, there's no doubt this spider with its human limbs will creep players out just as badly.
Other, more enormous creatures are also seen in the background of other concept art, such as the creepy red tentacles that may be living red lyrium tainted deep mushrooms, or the red lyrium giant fighting a tired swordsman, or the horrifying gigantic centipede monster bigger than a high dragon near the end of the video.
The last one seems to be connected to Tevinter Nights short story The Horror of Hormak, where it's implied the Evanuris conducted body horror magic experiments on elves, Darkspawn, and humans, to make entirely new mutant creatures - including Warden Jovis, beloved of surviving Warden Ramesh, being turned into a giant centipede with a human torso.
