Duke Nukem For Never: 5 Ways To Save The Franchise

4. Create A Marketing Strategy That Doesn't Solely Rely On Nostalgia Of The Original Game

Duke Nukem Forever 1920x1080 462 Hd Remember the afore-mentioned annoyingly force-fed nostalgia? Yes, a king's treasury worth, but it makes sense. At one point in time Duke was being played by everyone and loved by everyone. However, that was close to 15 years ago. I don't want to say no one cares anymore (because I care), but come on guys, no one cares anymore. Begin anew with something fresh to bring to the table and don't just assume everyone still wants to play a Duke Nukem game because the main character is cool. On the contrary, be prepared for cultural changes in society leaving people more likely turned off by your steroid pumping misogynist creation. I mean a hot button in the industry right now is how to make games more politically correct by eliminating sexism in the form of female characters being appearing too "larger than life" in their designs. I still have yet to meet a girl in real life who actually gives a crap. The same thing happened with the 2012 release of Dredd 3D, a rated R science fiction film based on the comic book series Judge Dredd. Many people remember the awful movie made with Stallone in the 90s, but few out there under the age of 25 read the comic books. The marketing strategy for the film relied heavily on fan nostalgia. The result was the film (which is great by the way) flopped terribly at the box office.
