Dungeons And Dragons: 10 Abysmal Magical Items

3. Horseshoes Of Speed/Saddle Of The Cavalier

On a surface level, these items don't have anything inherently wrong with them. When your character is on a mount, the Horeshoes of Speed double its speed while the Saddle of the Cavalier ensures that you can't be knocked off of your mount by an opponent.

All of that sounds delightful up until you actually play Dungeons and Dragons for the first time. Mounted combat is very rarely implemented outside of running the Cavalier subclass of a Fighter. And looking through the options for a Fighter, you're generally far better of, mechanically, trying out Battle Master, Eldritch Knight, or Champion. I really want to include Arcane Archer on that list because I love their design, but truly it's sadly underwhelming.

I'm not saying there is any right or wrong way to play the game. If you want to be a mounted warrior, then by all means have a go, but, as is a recurring theme with many of the items on this list, it's far too rare an occurence to be of any value.
