E3 2016: 10 Returning Video Game Franchises You Woudn't See Coming
3. Quake
Released in 1996, the original Quake was id Softwares spiritual follow up to Doom, and it took the first-person shooter genre to the next level of graphical prowess and immersion. Its success created a franchise currently composed of five major titles and numerous expansion packs.
However, despite the franchises infamy and importance within the history of gaming, it has been nearly 10 years since a Quake game was released. This isnt exactly surprising given some of the recent restructuring and shake ups within id, but now that the company has proven itself again with the recent reboot of the Doom franchise, it feels like the time is right for the developer to do the same for Quake. Its been long enough that a new installment would come as a genuine surprise - in the best way of course.
Doom has proven that old school shooters have a place in the modern gaming sphere, and like Doom, Quake was a pioneer. Youll find that many gamers would love for it to reclaim its place as one of the best of its kind, just as its predecessor recently has. A new Quake made for this current generation would blow people away and remind them once again what a real first-person shooter plays like.
