E3 2016: 10 Returning Video Game Franchises You Woudn't See Coming
4. Crash Bandicoot
Before Naughty Dog was winning awards for Uncharted and The Last of Us, it made the quirky platformer Crash Bandicoot for the Playstation. The developer instantly became a major power player in the industry, going on to create three more entries in the franchise before moving on to Jak and Daxter.
Sony continued using the license, so while there have actually been many Crash Bandicoot games since Naughty Dogs departure, many would agree that it truly ended when they left. However, given the excellent callback to the original game in the recent Uncharted 4, it feels like Naughty Dog, whether intentionally or not, could be setting up an epic return to the franchise. If this were to actually happen, it would be huge.
Why so? Well, Naughty Dog has often made it clear that they like to work on a franchise until they feel like theyve made their mark, upon which they move on. They did this with Crash Bandicoot long ago, so their return would be a very unexpected, but pleasant surprise, as many would love seeing Naughty Dog revive the franchise that catapulted them to stardom.
Another Naughty Dog produced Crash Bandicoot would feel like a homecoming in a sense, and considering how consistent the quality of their games have been lately, its doubtful many would sneer at their decision to do so.
