E3 2016: 10 Things We Learned From Titanfall 2's Single Player Trailer

4. At Some Point In The Game, A Big Planet Gets The Death Star Treatment

One of the most visually impressive parts of this teaser was the image of an Earth-like planet in tatters, fractured to its core and floating eerily in space. I know a big moon-shaped super weapon isn't going to have blown it to smithereens.

Rather, in keeping with the theme of Titanfall lore, this destroyed planet looks to have been the consequence of relentless resource extraction. As we can see, the determination to expend all these finite resources has made the planet presumably inhospitable.

Could it be the main location of Titanfall 2's story? We just don't know.

At a glance the planet certainly looks Earth-esque, but the land mass doesn't look compatible with that of the planet. It could be that this image forms a part of an exposition-filled vignette chronicling the lore of Titanfall, considering the first title lacked a story mode altogether. Or it could be that this is the culmination of the player's time spent on that alien world. The latter definitely seems plausible, especially considering the entire premise of the franchise revolves around the human race expanding into the galaxy to find mineral-rich planets. It would make for a grim ending, but again, this is all conjecture and inference - all we know is that somehow, somewhere, a planet bites the dust in a big way.

Let's just hope that our trusty mech isn't left behind.
