E3 2016: 4 Ups & 7 Downs From Nintendo's Treehouse

1. Zelda's Gameplay Shows The Most Versatile Link Ever

And boy, when that Zelda gameplay finally landed, was it worth the wait or what? Yes, it looks beautiful, but the demonstration also showed off just how gigantic the open-world is, that there's a new "climb anywhere" mechanic allowing Link to scale pretty much anything (including large enemies), he can hang-glide around, Link can set fires, and there's generally more customisation and freedom than in prior Zelda titles.

Other memorable morsels we learned from the 5-hour livestream include dynamic weather that can affect Link's health, traversal being heavily physics-based (you can chop down a tree to cross an otherwise impassable gap), there's a magnet item which allows you to manipulate metal, another item that freezes objects and the ability to turn water into solid blocks of ice among countless other little tricks.

In short, Breath of the Wild seems like easily the densest and most ambitious Zelda game to date, and so it's simply a shame that we've got so long to wait until it's in our grubby hands.
