E3 2016: 9 Things To Expect From Spider-Man On PS4

8. A Movie Tie-In? No Chance

Spider-Man Homecoming Game
Marvel Studios

By now I think it's almost undeniable that publishers have realised that movie tie-ins don't do anyone any favours. They barely impress with sales numbers, and only have the immediate effect of tarnishing studio reputations with rushed, mediocre and ultimately unnecessary titles. Pushing Spider-Man down on the same path then wouldn't seem like the best way to reintroduce the character.

I know I know, Spider-Man 2 was and still is to many the finest treatment the character's received on console. But that was just one game out of the five that have been made to coincide with studio releases, and by all accounts all others failed to leave a positive impression. While the Marvel Cinematic Universe is indeed a wonderful world to make a game in, prospects of such a thing happening are immediately dashed when you remember the utterly abysmal releases Sega gave audiences during its formative years. Literally no one wants to go back there.

To look towards Arkham again would probably be the best option for another Spidey title. Creating a new, innovative comic-book universe to reside in would free any studio of continuity restraints, and would also give them the creative license to make a truly immersive and altogether different interpretation of the Marvel Universe. It only makes sense, but I imagine fans of all ages will be pleased if they don't have to contend with another half-assed movie tie-in come the character's solo MCU debut.
