E3 2017: 14 Announcements You Probably Missed
11. Metroid II Is Getting A 3DS Remake
If you turned off Nintendo's livestream as soon as their initial Spotlight livestream ended, you would've missed out on the reveal that Metroid II is getting a 3DS "reimagining".
That's right, Metroid: Samus Returns releases on September 15 and is being developed by MercuryStream (Castlevania: Lords of Shadow). Nintendo recently shut down development on the fan remake of Metroid II, AM2R, so its announcement wasn't particularly surprising, but the fact it wasn't included in the Spotlight showcase certainly is.
To re-iterate, Samus Returns isn't a straight port but rather a retooling of the original game, enhancing the visuals and allowing more fluid movement. Fans have gone years waiting for a quality Metroid game and then two are announced at once. Nice.
