E3 2017: 5 Ups & 6 Downs From Ubisoft's Conference
4. Skull & Bones Looks Like A Lazy Black Flag Rehash
It's not intentionally obtuse to say that Ubisoft's new open-world multiplayer pirate game looks a Hell of a lot like Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag...but without the assassins, of course.
Skull and Bones is being developed by Ubisoft Singapore, who not-so-coincidentally provided support to the Montreal team during the development of Black Flag, and though this new game certainly looks visually impressive, it ultimately also feels a little too similar to the gameplay loop from the aforementioned pirate romp.
Yes, Black Flag is arguably the best game in the Assassin's Creed franchise, but this just seems a little lazy and uninspired, especially for what will presumably be sold at a AAA price. Another, more positive way to view it, perhaps, is that it looks like a better version of Sea of Thieves. Skull and Bones releases sometime in 2018.
