E3 2018: 10 Announcements That Would Change Everything

8. Splinter Cell Revives The Stealth Genre

Admittedly, Ubisoft have been making some teases regarding this one, but if it ends up being real it would still be a surprise.

Even more surprising would be the next Splinter Cell managing to revive the stealth genre altogether.

Despite Splinter Cell being one of Ubisoft's most popular and successful franchises, there hasn't been a new game since 2013's Blacklist. Even though it received pretty good reviews it still didn't feel like a true Splinter Cell game, much like Conviction.

Therefore, releasing a brand new traditional Splinter Cell game would be a huge move for fans of the series, and a way of reintroducing one of gaming's greatest protagonists.

With stealth-centric games a rare bird these days, the return of Sam Fisher could, and should, end up bringing the genre into a brand new light.

The biggest piece of evidence for a new Splinter Cell actually comes from Sam's cameo appearance in Ghost Recon Wildlands. Although this is far from confirmation of a new title, the fact that Sam has aged considerably and has his original voice actor is certainly reason to hope for a new title set some years after the last proper entry.

If Sam Fisher finally makes his return, this E3 will be one to remember.
