E3 2018: 15 Announcements You Probably Missed
14. The New Xbox Is Codenamed "Scarlett", Probably Coming In 2020
After Phil Spencer mentioned during Microsoft's E3 conference that development was well underway on the next Xbox console, word quickly began to spread online from reliable tech sluth Thurrott that the new platform had the codename "Scarlett", with Microsoft likely aiming for a 2020 release.
Scarlett was said to encompass "a family of devices" and may see Microsoft deviate from the usual console model. Even so, with Spencer announcing the company's acquisition of four first-party studios and the creation of a fifth new one, it's clear they're making aggressive designs for the future of the Xbox brand.
Plans can always change, but it's certainly possible we'll actually be playing Scarlett two years from this very day (especially if Microsoft wants to get the drop on Sony this time and release in early 2020).
