Though Sony's electrifying gameplay reveal for The Last of Us Part II featured an affecting flashback sequence, this initially seemed like nothing more than a framing cut-scene. However, it was subsequently revealed during a deep dive E3 Coliseum interview that the game will indeed transpire across two timelines.

Fans are naturally speculating heavily on how this could affect the game's narrative and gameplay, with part of the game perhaps focusing on the rumoured inclusion of Ellie's mother, or having something to do with Joel's mysterious absence in the marketing so far.

Either way, it only layers even more intrigue on one of the most anticipated games of the next few years. Whatever Naughty Dog serves up, we're here for it.
