Though it was widely expected to be revealed during Sony's press conference, FromSoftware's new top-secret project Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice got a surprise unveiling in Microsoft's show.
No, it's not the Tenchu reboot that many fans wanted - though director Hidetaka Miyazaki did later admit that this was considered during development - but instead an original ninja IP taking place in 16th century Japan.
The protagonist is Sekiro, a shinobi with a prosthetic arm who ventures on a mission to avenge his master's murder at the hands of a samurai. The brief gameplay trailer sure looked like a FromSoft game, though it was later confirmed that the game won't feature the RPG elements or multiplayer of the Dark Souls series.
Still, it's sure to be another fiendishly challenging and astonishingly atmospheric offering from one of the most consistently brilliant devs in the business.
