13. Resident Evil 2 Remake Boldly Reinvents The Classic Original

Very nearly three years after it was first confirmed, Capcom's remake of Resident Evil 2 made its long overdue debut during Sony's conference, showing off new character designs for heroes Leon and Claire, and the classic RE2 world beautifully reborn within the shiny new RE Engine (which was first used for Resident Evil 7).

Though the actual reveal trailer itself was a little rough, subsequent teasers and gameplay videos posted by Sony revealed just how gorgeous the game truly looks, and how it appears to be more of a re-imagining of the survival horror classic than a straight remake.

Some fans will be left disappointed by the choice to adopt an over-the-shoulder camera and ditch the iconic fixed camera angles, but this seems to very much be an RE2 for our times rather than a nostalgic retread.

The game lands on PS4, Xbox One and PC on January 25, 2019 (a whole four days before Kingdom Hearts III, oops!), so not too long to wait.
