E3 2018: 3 Ups & 6 Downs From Square Enix's Conference
1. The Cringe-Free Video Presentation
Colossally disappointing though the show was overall, the pre-recorded video showcase was a smart choice by Square Enix to cut down on the inherent awkwardness of a live show and keep the cringe-worthy moments at an absolute minimum.
After all, their 2015 live conference was a clumsy mess due to the abundance of live translation that took place - leading to the hilarious gaffe where a translator could be heard snoring over the mic - so keeping things as smoothly controlled as possible made a ton of sense.
It also meant that Square Enix was able to slickly show off a ton of games in that mere half-hour, even if most of the trailers and gameplay reveals weren't all that interesting. After all, everyone knows what Tomb Raider and Just Cause are by this point.
Though the entire conference itself might be considered one big WTF moment, it'll actually avoid being featured much at all in the annual spate of post-E3 cringe compilations.
