E3 2018: 5 Ups & 3 Downs From Nintendo's Direct
Ups...
5. Fortnite Is Out On Switch...Today
It was the worst-kept secret of E3 that Epic Games' ultra-successful Battle Royale game Fortnite would be announced during the Nintendo Direct, and to the surprise of nobody, Nintendo confirmed the game's existence during the show.
What's more, they shadow-dropped it (for free, of course), making it available for the U.S. immediately after the Direct and a few hours later in Europe.
It's a perfect game for the Switch, really, and early reports indicate that Epic has served up a remarkable port that performs exceptionally well in handheld mode as well as docked.
Unfortunately Sony is still blocking cross-play with PS4, but surprisingly, the game reportedly allows voice chat by simply plugging a microphone into the Switch's headphone jack. That's...shockingly straight-forward for Nintendo.
So, get downloading and prepare to say goodbye to your social life. This could be a major system-seller for Nintendo, and it's sure to be one of the Switch's mainstay titles throughout 2018 (and probably beyond).
