E3 2018: 5 Ups & 5 Downs From Ubisoft's Conference
4. Beyond Good & Evil 2 Looks Insanely Ambitious
Ubisoft followed-up the Just Dance 2019 nonsense by showing off a new cinematic trailer and some pre-alpha gameplay footage for the long-awaited Beyond Good and Evil 2.
Sure, the glossy CGI trailer was a bit much considering how little actual gameplay was revealed, but that early footage sure boasted an epic, ambitious scale and beautiful visuals (even though the producers wouldn't show it full-screen and cut to a wide auditorium shot instead, annoyingly).
In addition to revealing that a young Jade will appear in the prequel, it was announced that the game will collaborate with Joseph Gordon-Levitt and his company HitRECord to crowd-source art assets for the game. Though keeping this on an even tonal keel won't be easy, it's certainly an innovative and interesting concept.
There's always the possibility that the game will end up biting off more than it can chew - because it's clearly not coming out anytime soon and could easily slip to next-gen consoles - but it's certainly a ballsy step-up from the more unassuming nature of the original cult classic.
