E3 2018: 6 Ups & 6 Downs From EA's Conference

3. Anthem Still Looks Stunningly Boring

EA capped off their show with a "deep dive" 20-minute segment devoted to next year's much-anticipated new IP Anthem, which was first introduced at last year's E3.

Sadly, this presentation's unwieldy combination of cinematic trailer, panel discussion, concept art slideshow and a gameplay footage reveal still didn't convince that Anthem's going to be anything more than another generic open-world multiplayer shooter.

From the hilariously cliched trailer dialogue ("There's a storm coming"), to the distinct Destiny clone vibe, excess of concept art on display and lack of much new compelling gameplay, this just wasn't the fully-fledged coming-out party the game needed.

It didn't help that the segment was wildly overlong - padded out with Twitter questions and recycled gameplay footage - but at least the devs did confirm that the game won't contain any lootboxes, and it'll release on February 22, 2019 (the same day as Days Gone).

Though EA still has 8 months to get the hype train running full speed, they really should've had more to show than this.
