E3 2019: 20 Huge Video Game Announcements You Need To Know
3. Shenmue 3 Is An Epic Games Store Exclusive
Yu Suzuki made an appearance at the PC Gaming Show to present a new trailer for his upcoming (and recently delayed) threequel Shenmue III, which focused on ridiculous combat, over-the-top voice acting and, er, some rather unconvincing facial animations.
But the game ended up embroiled in a most unexpected controversy, when the new trailer sneakily revealed that PC players can only buy the game exclusively through the Epic Games Store.
This was majorly frustrating to many who Kickstarted the game and specifically chose Steam as their platform of choice.
In addition to changing the distribution venue after the money has been received, the Shenmue III team informed backers that they wouldn't be processing refunds for this reason, only further enraging the fanbase.
Given how widely-loathed the Epic Games Store is by many players, one can't help but see this as an enormously short-sighted move, as one suspects even the hardcore crowd will be decidedly less eager to Kickstart a potential fourth game now. Oof.
