E3: 9 Biggest Bombshells From Microsoft's Conference
3. Hide Yo' Kids, Hide Yo' Wife, The Super Sad Indies Are Comin'
The indie games highlighted at Microsoft's press conference ran the gambit from haunting, to tense, to beautiful, to the kind of game you want to play while hammered with your friends. Games like Knight Squad looked like homages to classics like Bomber Man, while others like White Night seemed to be doing entirely new. There was also Cuphead, a game that looked exactly like an early 1930's Looney Tune. But the highlight of the indie showcase was Ori and the Blind Forest, an atmospheric side-scroller with emotional music and a compelling relationship between two characters that didn't utter a word. The moral of the story is that there are more creative games coming to Xbox One then you'll know what to do with. With developers being able to self-publish, soon players will find new releases on the Xbox One store coming with frightening regularity, to the point where they can't even keep up. And considering how slow going the ramp up to having a strong library of software on next gen consoles has been, it's definitely a welcome problem to have.
