As you can probably guess from the last entry, many people believe that the zenith of the UFC video game series came in 2012 with THQ's UFC Undisputed 3.

Although clearly inferior to EA games in some respects, a lot of what EA has improved in the series boils down to the EA games coming out on superior hardware compared to the THQ games that were released exclusively on the seventh generation of consoles.

The truth is that despite their age, the THQ games are in many respects just more fun to play. The arcadey feeling to the striking is not to everyone's taste but it does make the game far more accessible, and great to throw on for some bouts with friends.

But where the THQ games really shined was in the details. Realistic referee stoppages, extended post-fight cutscenes, and ground and pound defence reminiscent of Nick Diaz in his classic fight with Paul Daley all made this game an instant classic.

Also, the Undisputed 3 Championship Mode was an awesome way of getting acquainted with an existing fighter and controlling them as you rose up the ranks, all the way up to a title fight in a pay-per-view main event.
