4. In Development For Three Years

In another weird connection to the also-brilliant collaboration of Hideo Kojima and Guillermo del Toro for Death Stranding, Elden Ring also began life around three years ago.

Although it sounds like a huge chunk of time to be working on a game, thanks to Kojima sharing how it is possible to go from nothing to a fully fledged release using a strict schedule, we have to assume that's the case with George and FromSoft.

Interestingly, Martin getting involved for the last three years also highlights how much he was comfortable moving away from the Game of Thrones TV show.

It was already long confirmed that the show had exceeded the books' timeline and events, but with season 8 being such a notable dud thanks to Martin's complete lack of input, we can now see where a large portion of his time went instead.
