Putting Skyrim to shame.

The Elder Scrolls franchise has made a name for itself within the RPG community as being one of the best for unique and memorable quests. From Vvardenfell to Morthal, each game has brought with it a whole host of stories and missions filled to the brim with experiences that range from the hilarious to the down right heartbreaking.

However, when it comes to unique and memorable quests, no game comes close to touching The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. Skyrim and Morrowind are both undeniably great games, however Oblivion is where Bethesda really hit their creative stride when it came to dishing out the missions.

Martin Septim, Mehrunes Dagon and the Hero of Kvatch might all be approaching their fifteenth birthdays, but their game still possesses the biggest collection of absurd and outlandish quests ever found in a Bethesda title.

From gut-wrenching moments of betrayal, light-hearted pranks courtesy of insane Daedric Lords, to simple decisions that spawn entire new worlds and stories, Oblivion is a game that wants to go that extra mile and reward the players who go out and immerse themselves in its world.

With colourful characters, gripping storylines and unique play styles, here's our top ten list on the best Oblivion quests.

10. Canvas The Castle

It's always great in the Elder Scrolls when players are given a quest in a game that lets them play the role of a detective. Skyrim had Blood on the Ice in Windhelm as the best example of this kind of quest, however Oblivion runs it pretty close with Canvas the Castle.

When players first enter Chorrol Castle, they will meet the Countess who tells them that one of her favourite paintings has gone missing. She has a list of suspects that the player must interrogate about the disappearance of the painting, before they have the freedom of the whole castle to navigate through and gather up clues and evidence to accuse one of the suspects.

The whole quest is a welcome change of tone and pacing from the rest of the game, and the fact that players aren't given any quest markers and are forced to gather certain pieces of evidence in a certain order adds more of a challenge to this side mission.

On top of the surprising amount of depth to the quest and its characters, there's even some hidden bonuses and rewards to unearth during players' time in Chorrol Castle.
