Elder Scrolls: 7 Reasons Morrowind Is BETTER Than Skyrim
2. Verticality
Morrowind was released in 2002 for the 6th generation of console. There have been hundreds, if not thousands, of open world RPGs on progressively more impressive machines in the nearly two decades since. And yet, despite all those years and all that technological advancement, very few if any games have the same sense of freedom that Morrowind does, because you can move any direction, including up.
Okay, there are plenty of games with mechanics that allow you to float or hover or jetpack or whatever. But few if any games utilise levitation with the impact and degree of freedom that Morrowind delivers. You can levitate anywhere, any time, and as high as you'd like - there's no artificial "fuel meter" to run out or glass to ceiling to hit. It is yet another force multiplier on the sense of freedom that makes Morrowind truly special.
Want to charge to to depths of Red Mountain without all the questing needed to gain entry through Ghostgate?
Just cast a levitate and fly right over that big, beautiful thing.
