Every Cancelled Super Mario Game - Ranked

1. Super Mario 64 2

There have been countless rumours and rumblings about a Super Mario 64 sequel across Nintendo's history, with the game's popularity and legacy still as prevalent as ever.

And whilst the game was given a reboot with the release of Super Mario 64 DS, which featured thirty more stars, revamped graphics and a whole host of new characters and minigames, one of the most sought after things fans have demanded from a Mario 64 game is a multiplayer option.

The original 64 game did have plans to include the option of a second player taking the reigns as Luigi, but Nintendo weren't able to get it working in time. It was hoped that a sequel, with some of the improving technologies on offer, would be able to finally bring multiplayer to the world of Super Mario 64.

Originally planned for the 64DD console in 1999, Nintendo did indeed produce a demo level that made use of Luigi as a character, as well as delivering plans for a variety of new power ups and introducing Yoshi as a rideable character.

Though the game was once again cancelled, Nintendo revealed at E3 in 2013 that elements from the title had been used in games such as Mario Sunshine and the Mario Galaxy series.
