6. The Last Guardian
Chastised for having cat-like animal A.I. that was perhaps a bit too realistic i.e. Trico occasionally wanders off or doesn't listen to your commands first time through, if you could get on board with Team ICO's portrayal of a young boy bonding with a giant creature to secure their collective freedom, The Last Guardian a work of art.
Comprising lots of platforming that channels ICO alongside hanging on for dear life as Trico leaps ginormous distances in a single bound (something straight out of Shadow of the Colossus), you'll spend equal time planning where to go next, as plucking spears from Trico's coat. It seems the pair of you taking flight has alerted this mysterious prison's guardian force, but that only opens the game up to moments where Trico comes bounding in to save your skin at the last minute - before you then spend a few minutes calming him down.
All of which creates a seamless gameplay flow, exploring, climbing and bonding as one. If you're anything of an animal-lover, check it out.
