By brokering a new deal with multiple different developers over the past few years, Marvel have finally begun to rescue their superheroes from a life spent occupying video game bargain bins by putting them in the hands of developers and publishers who actually care about them.

And the PS4 exclusive Spider-Man game from Insomniac will be the first title to prove whether or not this crop of releases will be better than the comic book adaptations that players are used to. Fortunately, the first trailers have been more than promising, offering fans a glimpse into an original Spidey tale and the lovingly crafted NYC the developers have created for the Web Head to swing through.

There's a couple of reasons to be cautious however - including the gameplay trailer's reliance on quick-time events and the odd selection of villains - but for the most part Spider-Man is shaping up to be one of the Web Head's best video game outings in years.
