In an attempt to revive the God of War series after it became increasingly irrelevant during the late stages of the PS3 era, the latest instalment in the franchise is attempting to revitalise the iconic PlayStation property with a more narrative-driven approach, grounding Kratos and making him feel like an actual character for once and not just an over-the-top caricature.

Although the visceral combat and grand scale that the series is known for remains intact, the new title seems to be a much more thoughtful and emotional affair in both its tone and presentation. So while you can probably say goodbye to features like the cringe-worthy sex mini-games that gave the previous titles such a dude-bro feel, you can say hello to God of War reclaiming its reputation as being the PlayStation giant it once was.
