13. Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice

The new action game from Ninja Theory, Hellblade, promises to be much more experimental than beat-em-up brawlers of its ilk tend to be. Rather than finding any old excuse to have you face off against a screen full of enemies, Hellblade's unique selling point is that everything happening on screen is a manifestation of the protagonist's psychological problems.
The hellscape that the game takes place in is directly linked to Senua's mind, with the enemies and locations reflecting the warped version of reality that she sees. Likewise, the developers have promised that the game's narrative will offer an extremely personal look into these issues and themes, with the combat also feeding into Senua's nightmarishly warped psyche.
It hasn't received much buzz and it's awkwardly been marketed as an "independent triple A title", but there's enough here to justify being cautiously optimistic for Ninja Theory's new title.
