I've discussed before that Days Gone's critical flaw is that it doesn't know what it wants to be. Acting as a mix of post-apocalyptic and open world features that have been done to death over the past few years, despite the obviously high production values Sony Bend's upcoming release seems to be bereft of new ideas.

There could be something interesting in the title's Sons of Anarchy biker gang setting, but both the cinematic trailers and the extensive gameplay reveals seem to highlight a game lacking a distinct identity and reason to exist.

Of course there's still time to right the ship, but unless the developers are able to carve out their own corner of the genre, then Days Gone is destined to be overshadowed not only by similar games on the market, but similar games in Sony's own exclusive lineup.
