Every single second of 2016's DOOM was perfect. A self-aware revival of one of gaming's oldest and most infamous IPs, iD Software threw away everything that DOOM 3 looked to be heading towards i.e. slow, corridor-crawling horror where you couldn't equip a torch and weapon at the same time, and dove head-first into one giant gore-fest, complete with a phenomenal soundtrack from Mick Gordon.

Gordon's industrial thrash metal tendencies were the perfect backing for a game that's heavy metal theatre personified, and for DOOM Eternal, iD are only enhancing those aspects tenfold. Now we've got way more melee kill animations, enemies that require arena acrobatics to find weak spots, and a whoppin' great energy sword to hit them with.

In short, this will be more of the same FPS perfection as the last, but done by a studio who know exactly how to iterate on their revamped formula in all the right places.
