10. Wargroove
Onto genuinely recommendable fare, and Chucklefish's Wargroove is a sublime turn-based strategy game, more than in the vein of Advance Wars.
Playing as a number of different units with one special power per type, the crux of battle is decided on taking over buildings and settlements from your opponents, or turning neutral ground in your favour. Here you can spawn more units closer to the goal or stand a better chance of dominating the entire field, and its this setup that leads to extended duels actually feeling like meaningful conflicts between characterful factions.
Though Wargroove isn't necessarily going for narrative investment, you do come to love its array of anime-esque characters, alongside knowing who's best placed where, and what everything from stagecoaches to dog units can bring to the table.
The only thing letting this down is a brutal difficulty curve after the opening set of missions - one that as the game has no checkpoints, means you can lose entire 40 minute chunks to battles that go south at a moment's notice.
Everything else though? Utterly adorable and tactical in equal measure.
