Every Mass Effect 2 Loyalty Mission - Ranked
5. Legion - A House Divided
As we enter the top five, the nit-picking stops. Most of the missions below would have been highlights in any other game, but Mass Effect 2 spoiled us. Like a glove slapping Texan though, these missions demand satisfaction.
After making the Geth cannon fodder baddies in the first game, Legion - and this mission in particular - humanised them with wonderful subtlety. Like Miranda and Jack, it can start a fight with Tali but that happens so late in the game; most players are well equipped to either Paragon or Renegade their way out of that mess.
The lore here is touching. Legion’s name is from a Biblical quote to signify strength in numbers and his plating is made from Shep’s old armour. We also learn of the factions of in-fighting, and hear Legion paint the Geth as terrified slaves, fearing a strike from the Quarians, their creators.
The level itself is enjoyable and challenging too. Ditching traditional duck and cover gauntlets, one of the final stages is a battle arena where you must take out four increasingly difficult waves.
While not quite number one, there is no mission in Mass Effect that changes our perception of a race quite so much.
