Every Yakuza Game Ranked From Worst To Best
4. Yakuza 2 (2006)
Yakuza 2 took what worked with the original game and improved upon it greatly; giving fans a jam-packed game despite limited hardware. One year after its predecessor, the Tojo Clan is attacked by the Ryuji Goda and wages an all-out war across the streets.
The sequel excels with the combat with Kiryu sporting new moves and new Heat Actions. As he is accompanied by Kaoru Sayama, there are also tag-team actions and AI companions to help you out. This time around, Yakuza 2 also gets a new explorable map through Sotenbori that serves as a contrast to Kamurocho. Both maps feature numerous mini-games and are rewarding for completionists.
Another great aspect is how the title expands the mythology of the first as it introduces the Omi Alliance which serves as a rival to the Tojo Clan. Goro Majima's role is also expanded here while other mainstays like Daigo Dojima are introduced here.
Ultimately, Yakuza 2 is a perfect example of a sequel that improves on every aspect of its predecessor. The stakes are higher and the gameplay is better than before.
