Every Yakuza Game Ranked From Worst To Best
3. Yakuza 5 (2012)
Yakuza 5 is Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio's largest effort, spanning five playable characters in five explorable cities. It is the culmination of all their efforts, seeing each playable character get a decent amount of screen time while having detailed minigames like Kiryu's taxi-driving missions, Saejima's hunting stages, and Haruka's quest to become a J-Pop idol.
While the campaign features several large battles, these side campaigns have also been given so much attention as well.
A great thing about Yakuza 5 is how this side content complements each explorable city, giving the gamer a tour through each area of Japan. It is one of the reasons why the franchise resonates with foreigners today, as its sincere look at a country's culture and the attention to detail remains fascinating.
Yet, this gargantuan effort led to some faults as Yakuza 5's story often gets too convoluted, especially in the latter half. There are so many betrayals and twists that left most gamers completely confused.
Plot issues aside, the title is an achievement in gaming and shows how much RGG Studio accomplished to that point. Yakuza 5 is an epic video game, and one that gets better the more hours you put in.
