Everything PS5 Does BETTER Than Xbox Series X

6. Overhauled Console UI & Unique Features

Revealed in a recent "user interface" demo video, Sony have finally shown a ton of PS5 features that are baked into the console itself. Let's break these down:

- In-Game Messaging & Party Chat: The mandate with the new firmware is to keep you in-game as much as possible. That means the PS Home button now opens a full version of the dashboard around what you're playing. You can reply to messages, check trophies, read game-specific news updates and much more.

- Segmented Game Loading: It'll be fascinating to see which other developers adopt this going forward, but an example shown was from Sackboy. We saw a user choose a mission goal/trophy they hadn't unlocked yet, then boot to that part of the game, all from the Home menu.

These selectable goals also came with time estimates on how long they'd take to beat, bringing in some much-needed integration from the likes of howlongtobeat.com. Imagine jumping to your favourite set-piece or boss battle without having to replay the entire game again. That's hopefully where this leads.

- Built-In Controller Microphone For Voice Chat: An evolution of the DualShock 4's speaker, now you can speak directly into the controller for party chat, or record messages alongside captured clips. The latter has speech-to-text recognition, hopefully letting you add comments to social media posts with ease.

- Picture-In-Picture: The next step for Share Play, the PS5 supports PiP for a friend or group's game feed, alongside letting developers include video guides on tricky portions of levels or trophy goals. You can pin these to the screen while playing, seeing what a friend is up to while chatting, or helping mop up 100% completion far easier.
