Everything We Know So Far About The Last Guardian
2. Storytelling Through Gameplay
Like Ico and Shadow of the Colossus, The Last Guardian is a third-person action adventure game with puzzles and platforming elements. But what separates this game from others of the same genre is the minor fact that your partner is a massive fantastic animal, and its presence will play a crucial role in the gameplay.
Trico will act as your feathered partner in traversing the environment, solving puzzles and exploring the hidden depths and secrets of the castle. Though you won't be able to directly control Trico, you'll be able to climb on it and give it commands. However, like any animal, it won't always do what you want. You can let it roam free on its own, where it can discover secret areas you might otherwise have missed.
In addition to all the climbing, jumping, and puzzle solving, there will also be some light stealth elements. Enemies will patrol the castle, and they'll recapture you if you don't avoid them. The boy is weak and vulnerable, but is able to tap into Trico's ferocity to fend off against attackers, which includes being able to shoot lightning out of its tail!
These are just the known basics; there are sure to be some delightful surprises in the final release. With that said, it has been a long time since this game was announced. Just how close will this game be to the one we were promised years ago? Well...
