Fable 4 Officially Announced: 10 Things To Return The Series To Greatness

5. A Good Villain (Please.)

Fable 4
Lionhead Studios

The original Fable had a fantastic villain in Jack of Blades. Creepy, murderous, masked and bloodied. He’s truly terrifying. He murders your entire family in front of your eyes and his final form is a literal dragon. That’s cool.

Fable 2? A powerful rich man that’s absent for most of the game who dies from a single gunshot wound that you yourself might not even fire. Fable 3? For the first half of the game it’s your arrogant distant brother the King, who is then abandoned in favour of The Crawler, a creepy distant threat that’s essentially the Smoke Monster from LOST.

Fable 2 and 3 lacked urgency in terms of their villains. They were hardly ever on screen, you hardly fought any of them and you certainly weren’t ever scared of them. Jack of Blades is the kind of villain Fable 4 needs.

Chances are I’m watching a movie or replaying Mass Effect rather than doing anything productive.
